HistorySt. Mary’s English Higher Primary School, Falnir, Mangaluru started by the Apostolic Carmel Sisters in 1961, is a Minority Educational Institution as per the Constitution of India, Article No. 30 (1). The Apostolic Carmel Congregation was founded by Mother Veronica of the Passion (1823 - 2006) in Bayonne, France in 1868 and was established at St. Ann’s campus in Mangalore in 1870 with its main thrust, the development of women in India, as Persons imbued with deep faith in God and in themselves by providing sound Catholic Education. Over the past hundred and forty years of its existence the Apostolic Carmel has expanded with large number of Educational establishments in India, Sri Lanka, Middle East, Pakistan and East Africa. While fulfilling our objectives as a Christian Minority Institution for the Education of this minority, our institutions are also open to all, irrespective of religion, caste and creed. However, in keeping with the aims and philosophy of Catholic Institution and the Charism of our Foundress, Mother Veronica who cared for the poor and the orphaned, we have a special concern for the disadvantaged and marginalized sections of the society through our education.
